what’s the difference between the orginal naked lunch book and the restored text version?
I recently bought the restored text version of naked lunch and I know it’s been edit but is it totally different then the orginal copy of naked lunch? Are there any major changes? Should I return the restored text version and buy the orginal? Thank You.
The main difference in the restored text version of Naked Lunch is the addition of previously unpublished material. The new material includes a sketch called “The Death of Mel the Waiter” and a number of “outtakes” featuring characters such as A.J. and Dr. Benway. The parts which appeared in the original version have apparently not been changed very much. It wasn’t Burroughs, of course, who put together the restored version, so we don’t know what he might of thought. The consensus seems to be that the additional bits don’t add a tremendous amount, but are there to capture the “definitive” version. So you’ve kind of got Naked Lunch +. All the goodness of the old, plus a little bit new.
